1 October 2012 - Michel Heesen is working on the renovation and interior plans of a 19th century dwelling in the city of Arnhem.

15 April 2012 - In commission of Mothership and the City of Rotterdam, Michel Heesen has designed an 'analogue augmented reality' on Stadhuisplein for the exhibition 5th IABR 'Making City' in Rotterdam.

Bicycle path with legemdary heroes

15 January 2011 - Michel Heesen has designed a concept for a new bicycle path. The names and images of legendary sport heroes inspire and give mental strength to cycling commuters, who are the heroes of our time, choosing not to travel by car. The names reflect on the tarmack, the images of legendary episodes of the Giro d'Italia are shown in tiled mosaics in underpasses.

1st prize design 'Atelier Malkovich'

1 August 2008 - Winning entry of the architectural competition 'Atelier Malkovich', build at Nieuwe en Meer near Amsterdam. The folly Binnen Buiten ('inside out') has been designed and build by Gillet Heesen Nouwens Architects.

Urban design former wetland area

1 July 2007 - Michel Heesen and Thomas Gillet have made an urban design concept for a former wetland area in Amsterdam. The concept is based on water retaining and high density with back-to-back single-family dwellings.

Tower with roof terrace The Hague

1 July 2007 - In commission of Bouwfonds MAB development, Michel Heesen, Thomas Gillet and Kobbe Nouwens have made a preliminary design for a tower with 55 apartments, a bicycle parking, dental practice and office space. The roof has been designed as a terrace with palm trees and a tub, shared by the private owners of the apartments.

Unsolicited: Public square The Hague

1 May 2007 - Michel Heesen, Thomas Gillet and Kobbe Nouwens have made a design for the public space at the crossing of Hengelolaan and Leyweg in The Hague. The new design is based on a more efficient lay-out of the existing parking places. This creates enough space for a basketball field and a playground, while all existing large trees remain untouched.

Urban strategy Rotterdam-Zuid

1 October 2006 - Michel Heesen and Hans Stakelbeek have made an urban strategy for the public green in post-war areas in Rotterdam-Zuid. Instead of offering a top-down Masterplan, the strategy is based on the participation of inhabitants.

Nomination Nieuw Tij Zeeland

1 July 2006 - Michel Heesen and Thomas Gillet have been nominated for the architecture competition Nieuw Tij Zeeland. Heesen and Gillet designed a building with 1,000 dwellings underneath an elevated highway.

Prize winning urban strategy Rotterdam

15 June 2006 - The Ministry of Economic Affairs has rewarded Michel Heesen and Hans Stakelbeek with an honourable mention. The team made an urban strategy for an industrial area in Rotterdam, including a tourist map and photographic evidence of spontaneous leisure, such as road-side camping and mid-winter bathing in the pleasantly warm coolant water of the Eon power plant. The prize was handed over by chief government architect Mels Crouwel.

Unsolicited: holiday house above sea-level

30 March 2006 - Michel Heesen has made a design for a zero-energy, autonomous holiday house in Almere, a city close to Amsterdam ALmere was built on the bottom of a former lake. The first floor of the house is at sea-level (NAP): 4,2 m above the surrounding meadowland.

1st prize Bouwfonds MAB competition

15 March 2006 - Michel Heesen, Thomas Gillet and Kobbe Nouwens are the winning team of the Bouwfonds MAB designprize 2006 young architects.

The team designed a tower with 60 apartments in The Hague. The building ''IN/OP'' has been designed to suit the lifestyle of young people.

The team wins € 15,000 and the design commission for the tower.

Nomination Bouwfonds MAB

15 October 2005 - Michel Heesen, Thomas Gillet and Kobbe Nouwens are nominated for the Bouwfonds MAB designprize 2006 young architects.

Their first stage is a generic urban concept for the design and implementation of starter homes. In the second stage of the competition, the team will turn the generic concept into an architectural design at a specific site in The Hague: the corner of Leyweg / Hengelolaan.

Urban strategy Heidestrasse Berlin

1 May 2004 - Michel Heesen has made a generic urban concept for an abandoned industrial site in Berlin. Instead of offering a Masterplan, the strategy is based on defining a framework of three urban strips. The space inbetween is invaded by parasite structures.

Club Cinema Motel Rotterdam-Noord

23 March 2004 - Large scale infrastructure, such as highways, railways and canals, often cut off urban tissue, leaving strips of undefined public space. Michel Heesen made an urban and architectural design that makes good use of this left-over space: a nightclub, a cinema and a motel connect two urban quarters of Rotterdam, currently separated by a canal, highway A20 and a railwaytrack.

1st prize spatial strategy Rotterdam

8 December 2010 - The spatial strategy 'Door dicht en dun', developed by Gillet Heesen Nouwens Architects, has won the 1st prize of architecture competition 'Een Tweede Leven' (second life), organized by the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects BNA.

Nomination World Sustainability Centre

27 November 2009 - Michel Heesen has been nominated for the architecture competition World Sustainability Centre Afsluitdijk. 'Powerful Curve' is a partly elevated Afsluitdijk, combining an algae powerplant, a visitor centre, a zeppelin platform and a research institute. The architecture concept was made in collaboration with Thomas Gillet.

Research by design: bicycle bridge A'dam

23 October 2009 - In commission of the city of Amsterdam, Michel Heesen conducted a research by design on the possibilities of re-developing an existing pedestrian bridge in 'De Baarsjes'. How to facilitate a crossing for bi-cycles without demolishing the existing bridge and the old trees in the vicinity of the crossing? Heesen also made a preliminary design for a new bridge.

Urban design concept Vardø (Norway)

1 July 2009 - Michel Heesen has made an urban design concept based on a sustainable, zero-energy strategy for the city of Vardø (Norway).

Michel Heesen wins ZHVP 2008

15 December 2008 - Michel Heesen has won the Zuid-Hollandse Vormgevings Prijs 2008 (category young-professionals).

Heesen designed 'Mud Spa Grevelingen', a spa in which the excessive algae in lake Grevelingen are used for renewable energy, water purification and cosmetics. After winning the prize, Heesen took part in two strategy meetings on the future of Grevelingen.

1st prize roundabout and wildlife crossing

1 October 2007 - Michel Heesen is one of three winners of architecture competition Rond de Rotonde ('around the roundabout'), organized by the county of Utrecht.

The design proposal turns an existing roundabout across highway A27 into a combined traffic-bicycle-wildlife-crossing.

The design will not be executed: the roundabout will be demolished in favour of reconstruction of this part of the A27.

Wellness spa along river Rhine

1 September 2009 - Michel Heesen and soil expert Ann-Charlotte Toes have made an architectural design concept and landscaping plan for a wellness spa along the river Rhine.

Water temple for contemplation

1 January 2008 - Design for a temporary place for contemplation. 'Ssst' is a structure of three triangular shaped spaces, that can be isolated from the outside world by turning on water screens. The screens between the three triangles can be turned on and off by choice, dividing the small temple into one large space or three separate rooms.

3rd prize Casanova competition 2007

1 December 2007 - Michel Heesen made an urban and landscape design concept for greenhouse dwellings in the Westland greenhouse area, resulting in a 3rd prize in the Casanova 2007 design competition.
