2007-2012 | In 2009 and 2011 Michel Heesen and cameraman/ photographer Hans Stakelbeek made a 25,000 km road trip on the longest designated routes in Europe: European highways E75 and E50. Goal of the project was to reflect on the current state of infrastructure design and construction in European countries by means of photo, film and interviews with the ‘inhabitants’ of the route (such as waitresses and shopkeepers). The project resulted in exhibitions in Rotterdam and Maastricht, a number of lectures and debates (Amsterdam, Bratislava, Delft, Donetsk, Istanbul, Kiev, Milan, Rotterdam, Ternopil, Volgograd) and a scientific publication on the applied method of research. The project was made possible through the generous support of Fonds BKVB, Stimuleringsfonds Architectuur, ZJA, Van Riebeek institute and many crowd funders.
